Mozilla Firefox 3 is already out and has been a massive success in terms of number of downloads already.

Firefox 3 is feature packed though we would highlight a specific tip which is useful for bloggers who make use of the Tags feature.

Firefox 3 allows you to copy snippets of content from different section of a page in one go.

All you need to do is press the CONTROL key while picking up new snippets.

This feature can be used to pick up keywords from a blog post to be pasted in the Tags section in blogging tools like WordPress.

Pretty cool!

User Account Control is one of the most annoying security features in the Windows Vista operating system.

It serves little considering most people do not even bother to think before clicking on the option to continue with what they are doing.

So, well if you want to disable User Account Control in Vista, here is the simplest way to do it as per my knowledge.

Press on the Window Button (Start Button).

Click on that little image that represents your account.

There you go… You can now see the option where you can turn off/on this feature.

Linux Workaround for ‘Argument list too long’ error message while removing all files from a directory

While someone deleting the files by using rm on the linux server, he might face this problem. There is a maximum number of files that can be passed as arguments to rm. So it does not allow you remove the files with ‘rm’ command.

Using rm to delete files is the easiest way adopted by linux users. Well, I see that if this does not work, there is a solution provided for this problem. As mentioned, there were around 72K files were generated in a folder which needed to be deleted. In the example, there are all the files starting with “Count”, so can be chosen using “Count*”.

Here is the output on command prompt.

root # rm Count*
/bin/rm: Argument list too long.

The workaround as given is: Use find to pipe all the matching files to rm, one at a time.

root # find . -name ‘Count*’ | xargs rm

And this can remove as many files as you want. Perfect!! Not yet…

The “find | xargs” solution doesn’t work on files with spaces. Now what to do? The only reliable way I could find is to use

find . -name ‘Count*’ -exec rm {} \;

but there’s a caveat: it will look for Count* in subdirectories as well, which may be undesireable. So in that case, -maxdepth 0 does the trick.

root # find . -maxdepth 0 -name ‘Count*’ -exec rm {} \;

I hope you got your trick now!!

Mozilla Firefox users are lucky to have this functionality integrated in their address bar, which enables them to visit the first site of Google for a keyword when the user does not put in a valid website address.

Now, UserJS.org brings to you similar functionality by using a UserJS script which is so cool! The script has been developed by Nicolas Mendoza and requires at least Opera 8.0 to work. The site describes this UserJS as:

If the page cannot be found, this script forwards the content of the address bar to the I’m Feeling Lucky ™ search feature from Google. This behavior can be changed to use any other service.

Scrolling Tip for Opera Browser

Here is another interesting tip I found which works in the fabulous Opera Web Browser. The application already comes with a feature called ERA (Extensible Rendering Architecture) which helps the user to get rid of horizontal scrollbars on weird or badly designed websites. However, if you are stuck with a one-way scroll mouse and have to surf sites with horizontal scrollbars, there is a tip, which can come handy.

Just get the cursor over the horizontal scrollbar and use the wheel in the mouse to slide the page horizontally instead of vertically! Mozilla Firefox does not show this kind of behavior so I believe that it is an Opera specific feature. Put your inputs in the comments!

Opera Browser:
Opera is a web browser, or a computer application for handling common internet-related tasks, including visiting web sites, sending and receiving e-mail messages, managing contacts, and online chat.

ERA in Opera:
Opera’s new Extensible Rendering Architecture (ERA) means no more horizontal scrolling and improved ability to print entire Web pages. In combination with Opera’s Zoom function, ERA also presents a compelling accessibility feature with which users can magnify Web pages dramatically and still view them without having to scroll sideways.

More on Yahoo! Messenger:

Yahoo! Messenger is a popular instant messaging client and protocol provided by Yahoo!. Yahoo! Messenger is provided free of charge and can be downloaded and used with a generic “Yahoo! ID” which also allows access to other Yahoo! services, such as Yahoo! Mail, where users can be automatically notified when they receive new email. Yahoo instant messenger also includes a security feature which allows the user to be “invisible” to whoever they choose.

In addition to instant messaging features similar to those offered by ICQ and AOL Instant Messenger, it also offers some unique features such as: IMVironments (customizing the look of Instant Message windows) and Custom Status Messages. Another recently added feature is customized avatars.

Don’t you just hate the fact that Macromedia and Adobe have not ported most of their products to the Linux platform? I sure do. There is no decent alternative to Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Dreamweaver. While I keep on looking for a non-GIMP solution to graphical applications, NVU seems to be developing into a great alternative for Macromedia Dreamweaver.

The company calls their product a “complete Web Authoring System for Linux Desktop users as well as Microsoft Windows and Macintosh users to rival programs like FrontPage and Dreamweaver.” they add “Nvu (pronounced N-view, for a “new view”) makes managing a web site a snap. Now anyone can create web pages and manage a website with no technical expertise or knowledge of HTML.”

I completely agree. It actually is quite a decent product and it is being continuously being developed! Check it out at the website and download it here. The software is completely open-source and you can even download the source to compile it yourself!
